3D printers

From East Essex Hackspace

General Info

The 3D Printer Lab

3D printing has been a hot topic for almost a decade and the Hackspace gives you access to several different printers. As they can be slightly noisy and generate fumes, they are based in a dedicated room along with the second smaller laser cutter.

Please note, Carbon Fiber and resin printing is currently banned in the space.

FDM Printing

The most common form of hobbyist 3D printing, these printers melt and fuse plastic filament building up objects in layers.

Bambu X1C x2

We have two Bambu X1C 3D printers, each fitted with a 4-channel AMS (Automatic Material System). The Bambu Lab X1C is a high-speed CoreXY printer capable of producing high-quality parts in materials such as PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, and more, with features including automatic bed levelling and LiDAR-assisted first layer inspection. Each printer is paired with a Bambu Lab AMS unit, allowing up to four filaments to be loaded at once for multi-colour prints or automatic material switching, helping to reduce downtime and make complex prints easier to manage.

Build Volume: 256mm x 256mm x 256mm

Flsun v400

We have an FLSUN V400 3D Printer in the space. The V400 is a large-format delta-style FDM printer designed for fast, high-quality printing with a large cylindrical build volume giving plenty of room for tall or wide projects. It comes with a lightweight direct-drive extruder and a magnetic PEI spring steel bed with auto-levelling and filament run-out detection, and runs pre-installed Klipper firmware on a responsive touchscreen and Wi-Fi interface for easy operation and remote control. Stock configurations are capable of very high speeds (up to around 400 mm/s) while still supporting common materials such as PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU and more, making it a versatile workhorse for both everyday prints and larger, rapid builds.

Build Volume: Ø300mm × 410mm

3D Scanning

Creality CR-Scan 01 3D Scanner

This enables very easy scanning of both small and large objects with no need for any lengthy preparation.

FDM Printing Cost

If you bring your own 3D printing filament, use of the FDM printers is free for members with a current subscription.

The Hackspace keeps a stock of generic filament in a range of colours for the FDM printers and if you would like to use this it requires a donation of £1 per hour printing to fund consumables and maintenance. Sadly charging also applies any failed prints for this reason and the FDM printers, while generally reliable are not absolutely so.
