Oooznest Workbee Z1+

The Ooznest Workbee Z1+ is a 2.5 axis CNC and has a bed size of 1m x 1m, but has a working area of 770mmx770mm

It sports a Mafel FM1000 spindle.

Ooznest has a wiki on learning all about the Z1+ here https://learn.ooznest.co.uk/

This section is on how to use it https://learn.ooznest.co.uk/#Section_Ooznest_Usage_Guides

An induction is required before using the CNC, reach out on Discord and someone will help arrange the induction.

Web connection

To connect to the Ooznest CNC whilst connected to wifi at the space, visit: http://172.28.10.65/

Mafel FM1000

  • Nominal Input Power: 1000W
  • Nominal Speed (No Load): 4000 – 25000rpm
  • Clamping Collar / Chuck: 43mm / 8mm max

Collets Available

  • 1/4"
  • 1/8"
  • 8mm
Warning Warning:The collet is not straight forward to use, it requires a specific way to use it to prevent damage to the collet, nut and spindle. Tightening nut and collet should be done with care, over tigtening can cause the bit and collet to become stuck in the spindle, with possible damage to the bit, collet, nut and spindle to fix.
Danger Danger:When installing and removing the collet this should be done with the collet fitted to the nut AND with a tool in the collet. The latter is especially important when removing the collet, without a tool fitted the collet will pull out of the nut and possibly cause damage.
Warning Warning:Being rough when removing the collet from the spindle can damage it considerably and should be done with care.

Software

Ultimately the software you use is up to you. The space does have a copy of Ventric vcarve Pro

Instructions can be found here https://wiki.eehack.space/index.php/VCarve_Pro_Makerspace_Edition

If you are a member, you can request a free licence which allows you to design & create the toolpaths. It will not generate gcode. For that, you will need to use one of the hackspacespace computers which has the full copy in and transfer it to it via USB.

Preparing files for WorkBee Z1+

This guide covers the maslow only, but you can select the settings for the Workbee as it's a well known and well supported version.

Fusion 360 Configuration

A gcode post processor needs configuring in Fusion 360, details are available here: [1]
